[tweetmeme source= “brennels” only_single=false]Ah and what a coincidence my favorite topic appears on my birthday. Do I really need to discuss the importance of communication? I can’t tell you how the best developed plans fail due to a lack of communication and it may likely be the most important step of your plan.
Step #8 Communicate and Often
Communicating your plan, your strategy and you goals is critical to your success. You will need to communicate often in the beginning and then at least once a month to keep the momentum rolling. Engage your Marketing Communications team and ask if you can get 5 minutes on the next internal company call or meeting so you can share your plan and help recruit those who can help. This will help generate interest as well as keep everyone in the company informed of your goals and ultimately you will need to communicate your measurement results.
When I first introduced Twitter to our marketing team everyone looked at me like I had three heads. I didn’t do a good job of communicating the benefits or it could have been I was such an early adopter that I didn’t fully realize them myself. However, I held training sessions and kept at it describing how I was meeting people on line and building relationships and after several months (almost a year really) they finally got it. Persistence you will find is a major part of communication so you have to keep it up even if you may be repeating yourself.
